Getting The Perfect Summer Glow

Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to look like a sun kissed beach goddess?  Summer is in the air; you can feel it – it’s right around the corner.  The weather is getting warmer, the sun is warm, and we’re beginning to shed our layers.  But those winter layers have left most of us feeling undeniably pale.

This time of year, I’m always looking for products that give me that “sun kissed glow”, long before the sun can even peck my skin.  I find that it’s not about one singular product, but rather about the look as a whole.  I use a bronzer to contour most of the year, but for my summer look I switch out my standard bronzer for one with a bit of shimmer in it.  I’ve gone with Natasha Denona’s All Over Glow in Medium.  It’s a hydrating shimmer bronzing powder that literally has crushed pearls in it.

Another standard product in my makeup bag is a highlighter.  For bronzed look, I switch mine out for Milk Makeup’s Holographic Stick in Mars.  I swipe this on my cheekbones to give them a little bit of pop.  I always try to remember to make sure that my makeup blends into my neck and chest well.  So if my clothing shows my collarbones, I blend a bit of this there too.

Inherently, this look is meant to appear natural.  That being said, I try not to put a lot of eyeshadow into the look.  Still, I didn’t want to forget about my eyes entirely.  Bobbi Brown’s Sparkle Eye Shadow in Ballet Pink provides sparkle without a lot of color.  The eyeshadow isn’t very pigmented so it mostly deposits a light pink glitter.  While I love this shade, it has A LOT of glitter – so apply sparingly.

Lip products are honestly one of the most fun parts of makeup for me; so I basically had a field day through Sephora to find the perfect color.  I went with Kevyn Aucion’s Molten Lip Color in Rose Gold.  It basically looks like liquid metal on your lips, and I’m obsessed.  The more you layer on, the more pigmented it appears.  I try to go with a sparing layer to give just a hint of the perfect metallic shimmer.

All over, it definitely does a good job at faking that healthy summer glow.  At least it does for my face.  It’s a bit contradictory when your face is nice and tan looking but your legs and arms are super pale.  Recently I tried St Tropez’s Gradual Tan Lotion and found that after just a couple of days, I had some nice natural looking color.
