Today is officially the first day of Summer.
First Day of Summer
For the majority of the year, Chicagoans seem to hibernate. Whether it’s the cold, the rain, or the wind, we find ourselves indoors trying to escape all that mother nature throws at us. At the first sign of nice weather, we go running outside to find every patio or outdoor space we can find. It’s been one of my favorite things about living in this city. Chicago comes alive in the summer; there are constant festivals, street fairs, garden walks, outdoor concerts, and outdoor restaurant seating. There is always something that you can find to do outside, to soak up the beautiful sunshine.
The only downside can be the blazing temps and strong sun. For me, it’s all about slathering on a super thick layer of sunscreen (since it takes about 5 minutes for me to burn a fantastic shade of lobster) and wearing sundresses. I just got this particular sundress from the sale at Net-A-Porter. It’s an instant favorite. The cotton is super breathable, and shape floats away from the body so it doesn’t feel constricting and lets me feel the breeze. It’s also lined in a thin cotton, so you can be sure that it will never be see-through no matter the lighting. The crochet detailing at the top of the dress is more than just a pretty accent, it’s like built in air conditioning. The only thing this dress is missing is pockets – I love pockets.
