Even though I have a closet full of clothes, there are always those one of two pieces that get worn on constant rotation. During the summer, it’s an easy dress.
The Easy Dress
Now you might be asking, what exactly is an easy dress? Well quite simply put, it’s the dress in your closet that you constantly reach for; it doesn’t require a lot of adjusting, fits just right, is super comfortable, and you feel like a million bucks in it. Basically it’s your “go to” piece whenever you’re not sure what to wear. I have two of these sorts of dresses – this Zadig et Voltaire number and this Scotch and Soda maxi. I wear those two dresses so often it’s almost embarrassing; they basically don’t make it back into the closet, they just get cleaned and put back on. I wish I was joking.
Seeing as how I wear those dress ad nauseam, I decided it was time to invest in another. For me personally, I like the dress to be a light material so that I can stay cool – especially since I’m clearly partial to black clothing. A bit of length means I don’t have to worry about how I’m sitting, or more importantly, I don’t have to worry about burning my legs on seats that have reached a scalding temperature in the sun. It’s important that the “easy dress” is just that – easy – and just a grab and go number. I fussed with it more than I had to; I rolled up the sleeves and added a belt because I had time; but if I didn’t, I could just as easily throw it on and walk out the door.
Probably the most important factor in why I wear these dresses so much, is because I feel good in them. It’s not just that they are comfortable, it’s that I feel put together in them – even when I don’t necessarily have the time to spend on choosing an outfit. I’m a big advocate in investing in some of the more important pieces in your closet – this would be one of them. Pick a dress you truly feel amazing in and you’ll wear it so often, you’ll absolutely get your money’s worth out of it – and them some.
