Black, it’s the color most often associated with New York chic and widely considered the ultimate basic.
So you know how I just lamented over my habit of buying “something different” that ultimately never gets worn? Well black clothing is just about the safest bet for me. And it’s not some symbol of depression or an homage to emo music. I feel comfortable and confident in black. It’s universally accepted as being slimming and chic; it calls attention to its style not for being loud. Perhaps my favorite part of black is how unexpected it can be. There’s a wide spectrum of style within that one color: like the simpler black dress I wrote about the other day or the more dramatic look that comes from the skirt I’m wearing here. Aside from the spectrum of style, a monochrome black outfit is the perfect backdrop for a pop of color.
I could sing the praises of the color black and a monochrome black outfit for days, truly. However, I’m forcing myself to take a pause before hitting “add to cart” on black pieces these days. I can literally hear my mother’s voice in my head saying “more black?” EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. But if it’s a piece a like for more than it’s color, then I know if will fast become a closet favorite.
To be perfectly honest, I was going to love this skirt no matter what. The shorter slip underneath means that my legs look longer and the voluminous material is absolutely perfect for a twirl.
